THIS is why I have an emergency fund!

June 20th, 2007 at 05:14 pm

Nearly every personal finance advice site has the same advice on a few subjects, and almost all the time having an emergency fund is one of these tips. After all, you never know when something is going to come up and you'll need the money.

Last week someone came in the back slider door at my house in broad daylight (actually my rooomates house; he owns the place and hasn't fixed the broken lock since it was busted a year ago) and stole my laptop, IPOD, and digital camera. Not a good day for me.

So now I am shopping around for a laptop and camera. The IPOD I can do without. But what a bummer.

If it's a broken lock, i definitely would not wait around for landlord to fix it. Even without the place having been broken in, but now, even more so.

sorry to hear about your loss
I have to agree with Fern, for me security is not a luxury purchase but a neccesity - and should save you money and hassle in the long run

So sorry. We were robbed once in Florida and I went out and bought 2 dobermans. No one ever came in the yard again.

File a police report if you haven't already. Tax time, you may be able to claim against it. See if the homeowners insurance will cover all or part of the losses.
Fix the lock and GIVE the bill to the homeowner. Friend or not, it's his $%^%$#$ door and it should have been secure.
I like the idea of the dobermans. We have a very large Akita. And,should anyone get past him, we have very hard basball bats.

Do you have renter's insurance? It would cover some of the replacement cost.

Yeah, that's jacked up. I would take it upon myself to get the locks fixed as well.
